Juvenile Male Adder (Vipera berus)

They were out basking for approx 2 hours on Friday, before the rain started falling, forcing them the retreat back into hiding. I will wait eagerly for the next dry sunny day!
The two pics are of the same snake, just different angles. He was only a nipper (excuse the pun!), about the thickness of a pencil, but slightly longer.
Photographed with my 100mm macro lens.

  1. Have to explain "Nipper" with our international viewers, Bob,
a nipper is slang for young or a baby,
and no matter whether it is a youngun I would not chance having a nip from it. (bite)

  2. Yes you are right, I forget about using slang! You are also right about the bite, as the young come fully equiped with fangs and venom from birth!

    Thanks
